Psychotherapy. Brief therapy. Talking support. Coaching. Peer support. AI conversation.
They may all involve conversation, but they don’t mean the same thing.
Psychotherapy is a form of treatment
The purpose of psychotherapy is to support mental wellbeing and functional ability through systematic, therapeutic work.
It is usually based on regular meetings and a long-term process.
What’s essential is not just a single conversation, but what begins to repeat, change, and become understood over time in the sessions.
That is why in psychotherapy, continuity is a key part of the work itself.
Brief therapy is more focused
In brief therapy, the work is usually more time-limited and often focuses on a specific situation, question, or goal.
However, ‘brief’ does not automatically mean superficial.
Sometimes a very specific question can quickly open up something essential. At other times, it becomes clear that beneath one problem lies a much longer history.

‘Talking support’ can mean many things
‘Talking support’ can refer to professional counselling, support services from organisations, peer support, or simply the opportunity to talk to someone.
Sometimes a person doesn't need analysis or a solution.
First, they need a space where the matter can be fully expressed.
That alone can change how the situation looks.
What if you just want to think?
Not everyone who wants to discuss their thoughts is seeking treatment.
There are many situations in life that may not be illnesses or diagnoses but are still difficult to think about alone.
A relationship. Work. A decision you keep putting off. A recurring conflict. A feeling of inadequacy. The question of what you really want.
In these cases, what might be most important is the opportunity to regularly pause and focus on your own thinking.
WWAIT is different
WWAIT is not psychotherapy, brief therapy, or healthcare.
It is an AI process that models a psychotherapeutic process.
However, it has features that resemble a long-term conversational process: regular 50-minute sessions, continuity, remembering previous conversations, and an aim to understand things over time rather than just answering a single question.
WWAIT does not diagnose or treat.
It converses.
And sometimes the purpose of a conversation is not to find an answer, but to notice what the real question is.
